Czech Republic! A country so rich in history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes, and yet I had never managed to explore it thoroughly until now.
The desire to undertake this adventure was shared with my best friend, and so the plan for an 11-day road trip was born, taking us deeper into the heart of Europe.
The anticipation was huge, as we wanted not only to see the well-known gems like Prague and Český Krumlov but also to dive into the less-traveled corners of the Czech Republic.
When planning this trip, I was, of course, aware that thorough preparation was essential, especially since we would be traveling by car. So, I made sure to find out all the specifics that need to be considered when driving in the Czech Republic.
One important point that I almost overlooked was getting a digital toll vignette. In the Czech Republic, it is necessary to have such a vignette to use most highways and some expressways.
Fortunately, I was able to easily register it online for 14 days, allowing us to plan our route through this fascinating country flexibly and without worries.
This small but important step was the starting signal for our adventure, which was set to give us unforgettable impressions and stories. I have decided to share the journey with you day by day. Let’s get started!
Our adventure began with exploring the North Bohemian landscapes, a region that breathes history and enchants with its natural beauty.
The first stop on our journey was at the Tisá Walls, an impressive sandstone rock formation that was awe-inspiring at first sight. We took a small stroll through this natural wonder, where the bizarre rock formations and deep gorges seemed like they were from another world.
From there, we drove on to the district town of Děčín. This town, nestled in a picturesque landscape, fascinated us with its harmonious blend of historical architecture and vibrant culture.
We strolled through the streets, passing buildings that seemed to tell stories from long-forgotten times. It was a wonderful introduction to what was yet to come.
We then continued our journey, passing by the Lusatian and Jizera Mountains, two mountain ranges that captivate with their untouched nature and tranquility.
Our destination was Frýdlant, a place famous for its magnificent palace with sgraffito decoration and an impressive castle chapel. This palace, a true jewel of Renaissance architecture, allowed us to immerse ourselves in the times of noble rule.
The delicate sgraffito decorations on the facades told of the attention to detail and artistic skill of that era.
We spent our first night in Harrachov, a charming place in the Krkonoše Mountains. Harrachov, known for its ski jumping hills and scenic mountain backdrop, offered us a cozy and warm welcome. In our hotel, surrounded by the majestic nature of the Krkonoše Mountains, we ended the day.
We reflected on the fascinating impressions of the day and looked forward to the upcoming adventures of our journey through the heart of the Czech Republic.
